The biggest upset of the week belonged to Winona, who took down 113th ranked Winona, 12-7.
Charleston extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 3 this week by beating Palmer, 48-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Byhalia's dynamic duo of Marquis Rodgers and Kenneth Wilson proved tough for Independence to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rodgers threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns and Wilson had 72 yards receiving. Antonio Wilson helped Byhalia's passing attack out by catching one ball for 48 yards.
Deshadrick Truly was the most productive running back in the league this week. In five carries, he ran for 104 yards as Charleston beat the Wildcats. Teammate Allen Spurlock added to the ground attack by rushing for 76 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback Rodgers of Byhalia is the league leader in passing yards this season with 782. He has also thrown nine touchdowns. On the ground, the Tigers' Patrick Purnell has rushed for 999 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Tilmus Bradford. The Charleston star has 22 catches for 516 yards.
Winona's Purnell needs only one yards against John Danley's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in 3A Region 3 this week will be when North Panola takes on Tony Vance's team. As it stands, the Cougars are in third, while the Tigers are in first.
North Panola moved up to 160 from 200 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 12-7 win over Ken Chandler's team helped Derek King's team improve its standing.
