AA Region 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Washington-Wilkes extended the longest winning streak in AA Region 8 this week by beating Riverside Military Academy, 60-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Rabun County moved up to 324 from 383 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats climbed the ranks as a result of a 18-17 win over the Wildcats.
Rabun County's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Wes Holcombe threw for 164 and two touchdowns and Charlie Woerner had 76 yards receiving. On the ground Holcombe chipped in 87 yards. Devin Horner helped Rabun County's passing attack out by catching one ball for 40 yards.
Lee Shaw's team's Holcombe and Woerner have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holcombe has thrown for 536 yards this season, while Woerner has eight catches for 225 yards. Oglethorpe County's Kendrick Presley leads the league in rushing yards with 295.
Two of the top units in AA Region 8 will face off this week when the Patriots take on the Eagles. Oglethorpe County's offense has scored 99 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while Riverside Military Academy has allowed only 125 on the year.
Washington-Wilkes took down the Eagles 60-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
