Idabel is 3-0 against Wilburton since October of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Idabel Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Wilburton Diggers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Idabel has seven straight wins, Wilburton has 18 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Idabel stacked a sixth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They breezed by Antlers at home to the tune of 56-6. Given Idabel's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Antlers is ranked 193rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Idabel can attribute much of their success to AJ Smith, who rushed for 74 yards and three touchdowns, and also caught a touchdown. Another big playmaker for Idabel was Matrail Lopez, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Wilburton suffered a tough 42-20 loss at the hands of Heavener on Thursday.
Idabel's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.6 points per game. As for Wilburton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for Idabel against Wilburton when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 43-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Idabel since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
