Josh Hart looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Mason Walker was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Louis Smelcer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Terry Sanford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lee County can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Scotland by a score of 5-2.
Gavin Swann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Drew Stanfield was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Alston Beal was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Terry Sanford pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lee County, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Lee County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Terry Sanford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. It's a different story for Lee County, though, as they've only averaged .344. Will they be able to contain Terry Sanford's hitters?
Terry Sanford skirted past Lee County 9-8 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
