The Verrado Vipers pushed their score all the way to 69 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 94-69 defeat at the hands of Gilbert Christian. While losing is never fun, Verrado can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Gilbert Christian is ranked 48th).
It was another big night for Jace Olson, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points and 4 assists for Gilbert Christian. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Owen Fermoyle, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Verrado are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8. As for Gilbert Christian, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Verrado's road trip will continue as they head out to face Greenway at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Greenway comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Gilbert Christian will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fountain Hills at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
