Volleyball Recap: Alton Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Alton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 2-0 win over the Hazelwood East Spartans on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Redbirds in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.

The win didn't come easy: Hazelwood East scored at least 21 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-21, 25-21.

Ja'Kayla Steen paced Alton's offense, picking up nine kills. Steen got some help from Mackenzie Cochran and her 13 assists. Cochran also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Gracie Milford, racking up three apiece.

Alton's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Hazelwood East, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Coincidentally, Alton and Hazelwood East will both be playing Windsor the next time they take the court. The Spartans will head out to face the Owls at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Redbirds will play them later in the day, at 6:30 p.m.
