The Apple Valley Sun Devils fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They strolled past Serrano with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 24-6. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Apple Valley also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2022.
Apple Valley had a senior duo take command as Zyron Belcher rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries and Xavier Salazar rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
Serrano's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Kavanaugh, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry.
Apple Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 5-4. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Burroughs and 3-7 Sultana (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 36% over those games). As for Serrano, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Apple Valley will head out on the road to face off against Hesperia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hesperia is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games. Serrano does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
