The Centennial Coyotes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. Their tough 60-36 loss to Sunrise Mountain might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Centennial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while the Mustangs are ranked 22nd).
Despite the loss, Centennial still got an impressive performance from Akasha Prpich, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Kaleia Young was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Leading Sunrise Mountain to victory were Savanna Dotray and Addison Wiemann. Dotray dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Wiemann almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. Wiemann hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Inman, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Centennial has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Sunrise Mountain, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 21-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will challenge the Bobcats at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will head out on the road to challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Paradise Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
