Basketball Recap: Donolyjah Tyrell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Neuse Charter over North Duplin

Neuse Charter lost against North Duplin back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Neuse Charter Cougars fell 70-58 to the North Duplin Rebels.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donolyjah Tyrell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Tyrell has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last six times he's played. Klayton Tew was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven steals and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Neuse Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

North Duplin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Duquan Stevens, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Donavan Armwood, who went 9 for 21 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Neuse Charter's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for North Duplin, they pushed their record up to 6-9 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Neuse Charter Cougars duke it out with the Hobbton Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hobbton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for North Duplin, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something North Duplin surely won't give up without a fight.
