Mohawk will square off against Ontario at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mohawk 1.7, Ontario 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Mohawk easily dispatched Van Buren on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Warriors fell just short of Lincolnview by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday.
Emily Brickner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Brickner, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Ontario waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Presidents 15-2. Considering the Warriors have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie Corwin and Morgan Pearson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Corwin tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Pearson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Corwin a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Corwin went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one double, while Pearson went 1-for-4 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Ontario got a massive performance out of Brinlee Kreger, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Kreger has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Eden Howard, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.
Ontario kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Ontario pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Mohawk, their loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-2.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mohawk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Ontario struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
