Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Rancho Mirage Rattlers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 35-34 to Sonora. Rancho Mirage's defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Rancho Mirage still got an impressive performance from Yanni Padilla, who threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Edward Johnson was another key contributor, picking up 153 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Anthony Abad was a one-man wrecking crew for Sonora as he rushed for 209 yards and four touchdowns. Abad was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Rancho Mirage's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Sonora, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
Rancho Mirage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sonora will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Vista del Lago at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Vista del Lago focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
