The Fleming Island Golden Eagles will take on the Ridgeview Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fleming Island is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Fleming Island needed a bit of extra time to put away Tocoi Creek. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Toros. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Eagles have posted since April 18, 2024.
Mallory Blackwell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Sikes, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridgeview). They put the hurt on Trinity Christian Academy with a sharp 11-4 win on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Conquerors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Ridgeview got a big performance out of Nichole Deschamps, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-5. Those two stolen bases gave Deschamps a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Ridgeview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Christian Academy only managed three hits.
The win made it two in a row for Fleming Island and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgeview, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Both Fleming Island and Ridgeview just can't seem to miss. Fleming Island has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Ridgeview struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
