The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (BASIS - Mesa has eight straight victories, Phoenix School of Academic Excellence has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
In what's become a running theme this season, BASIS - Mesa gave their fans yet another huge victory last Tuesday. Everything went their way against New Way Learning Academy as BASIS - Mesa made off with a 55-32 win.
BASIS - Mesa had a senior duo take command as Cayden Plese dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds and Matteo Huish almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Muniz, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Phoenix School of Academic Excellence ended up a good deal behind New Way Learning Academy two weeks ago and lost 59-40.
Despite the defeat, Phoenix School of Academic Excellence saw an underclassman step up: Carmine Villegas scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Casey Holmes was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
BASIS - Mesa pushed their record up to 12-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Phoenix School of Academic Excellence, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Everything went BASIS - Mesa's way against Phoenix School of Academic Excellence in their previous matchup back in January as BASIS - Mesa made off with a 51-25 win.
