After flying high against the Strayhorn Mustangs last Friday, the Water Valley Blue Devils came back down to earth. Water Valley had to suffer through a rough 71-24 loss at the hands of Bruce. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Water Valley has scored all season.
Bruce's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jay Cole Williams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Williams pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Pierce, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Water Valley has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Bruce, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-16.
Water Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bruce, they will head out on the road to square off against Calhoun City at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Calhoun City's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Bruce has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
