Boone Grove and Lake Station Edison are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but not for long. The Boone Grove Wolves will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Lake Station Edison Fighting Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Boone Grove came up short against North Judson-San Pierre and fell 51-42.
Boone Grove might have lost, but man, Jack Stevens was a machine: he scored 21 points along with two steals. Stevens has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Noonan, who scored 15 points.
Boone Grove struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lake Station Edison's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their eighth straight defeat. They fell just short of Washington Township by a score of 52-49. The contest was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but Lake Station Edison couldn't quite close it out.
Lake Station Edison's loss came about despite a quality game from Areion Head, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That was a full 51% of Lake Station Edison's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Davon Jones, who scored 11 points.
Boone Grove now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Lake Station Edison, their defeat was their tenth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-16.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Boone Grove have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lake Station Edison struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Boone Grove was dealt a bruising 79-47 defeat at the hands of Lake Station Edison when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Boone Grove was down 42-21.
