Clinton has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Belton-Honea Path Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
With a playoff game on the line, Clinton rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Broome at home to the tune of 38-7. Considering Clinton has won eight matches by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Tray Cook and Tushawan Richardson were among the main playmakers for Clinton as the former rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries and the latter rushed for 18 yards and two touchdowns. Clinton also got help from Kadon Crawford who showed off his sure hands for 102 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Clinton's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. Aumar Robinson was especially locked on to Broome's QB and sacked him three times.
Meanwhile, Belton-Honea Path put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Pendleton 44-28. Given Belton-Honea Path's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Pendleton is ranked 57th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Justin Lathon was on fire: he rushed for 177 yards and four touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Clinton to 10-2 and Belton-Honea Path to 12-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the two teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Clinton commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.3 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Belton-Honea Path struggles in that department as they've been even better at 7.2 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Clinton strolled past Belton-Honea Path when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 28-13. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clinton since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
