Softball Recap: Woodside Comes Up Short

Woodside dropped their record down to 11-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Capuchino Mustangs, falling 11-1. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 9-0 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mo Overbey was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Capuchino, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On Capuchino's side, Lola Sierra was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Sierra has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Capuchino got a massive performance out of Star Gutierrez, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Gutierrez has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Dana Motroni, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Woodside will head out on the road to face off against San Mateo at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Capuchino, they will host King's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
