This season hasn't been kind to The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a serious blow against St. Francis on Friday, falling 50-12. Wheatland-Grinnell was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Lucas Raile was on fire for St. Francis: he rushed for 64 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 64 receiving yards. Another big playmaker for St. Francis was Dayton Fromholtz, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Wheatland-Grinnell's loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Wichita County and 10-1 Victoria (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.5% over those games). As for St. Francis, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Wheatland-Grinnell will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Weskan at 3:00 p.m. Weskan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Wheatland-Grinnell likes a good challenge. As for St. Francis, they will head out on the road to face off against Sylvan-Lucas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
