The Monte Vista Monarchs pushed their score all the way to 41 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hoover. Monte Vista has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Hoover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Exavier Williams led the charge by picking up 243 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Williams' longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. Another player making a difference was Kristian Noriega, who threw for 400 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 18.2 yards per attempt.
Monte Vista's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Mount Miguel and 7-4 El Capitan (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.7% over those games). As for Hoover, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Monte Vista does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hoover will head out on the road to face off against Vincent Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
