The Bennington Badgers will face off against the Gross Catholic Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bennington comes in on 11 and Gross Catholic on four.
Bennington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Seward with a sharp 8-1 victory. The Badgers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Jarron Utterback tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hunter Spencer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Morgan Schuman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Gross Catholic faced Ralston in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars skirted past the Rams 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted against the Rams since April 12, 2016.
Luke Janovich looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Cael Biggs-Berger and Drew Powers did most of the damage at the plate: Biggs-Berger got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Powers got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases. That's the most RBI Biggs-Berger has posted since back in March.
Bennington's victory bumped their record up to 26-3. As for Gross Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 17-7.
