The Benton Tigers will challenge the Northwest Area Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Benton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Benton took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Columbia Montour Vo-Tech a 10-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won seven in a row.

Cam Davis and Ben Farwell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Davis didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Farwell tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Davis posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. At the plate, Davis went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Farwell went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Farwell is becoming a predictor of Benton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layne Latorra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Benton is undefeated when Latorra posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Northwest Area was able to grind out a solid victory over Millville on Tuesday, taking the game 8-4.
Like Benton, Northwest Area also got a great game from a two-way player: Dominic Cavuto. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Cavuto was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and four runs.
In other batting news, Roman Bednarek was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Northwest Area has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Benton, they pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Benton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northwest Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
