The Monroe Cheesemakers are taking a road trip to square off against the Jefferson Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monroe's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Jefferson's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Monroe's win against Reedsburg wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cheesemakers never let the Beavers get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Saturday. The Cheesemakers haven't had any issues with the Beavers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Jefferson came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Crimson Tide. Give the Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Hildie Dempsey and Bre Mengel made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Dempsey pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Mengel pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dempsey has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Dempsey went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Mengel went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Ashlyn Enke was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Aeryn Messmann, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Jefferson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
Jefferson's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Monroe, their record now sits at 11-3.
Monroe came up short against Jefferson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Cheesemakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
