It was a good run, but the St. Pauls Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 71-49 walloping at the hands of Fairmont. While losing is never fun, St. Pauls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while Fairmont is ranked 131st).
Despite the loss, St. Pauls still got an impressive performance from Tykeem Oxendine, who scored 22 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Oxendine has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyson Thompson, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Landon Cummings was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds for Fairmont. Issac McKellar was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
St. Pauls now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Fairmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
St. Pauls will look to defend their home court on Friday against West Bladen at 7:30 p.m. West Bladen is coming into the matchup with nine straight wins on the road, so St. Pauls is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Fairmont, they and Cape Fear will face off at 6:30 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Fairmont has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 225 points over their last three contests.
