The Corner Canyon Chargers and the Arbor View Aggies (ranked 30 and 100 in the MaxPreps national rankings respectively) squared off in a high-profile matchup. Corner Canyon took a hard 68-52 fall against Arbor View on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Corner Canyon came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' national basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th in Utah, while Arbor View is ranked 100th in Nevada).
When it comes to explaining why Corner Canyon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Derelle Desire. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points. Desire scored a full 34.6% of Corner Canyon's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Bryton Valdes, who scored 7 points along with 8 assists and 3 steals.
Pharaoh Compton went supernova for Arbor View, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Compton has scored at least 25% of Arbor View's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Romero, who scored 11 points along with 7 assists.
Corner Canyon now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Arbor View, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Corner Canyon will be playing in front of their home fans against American Fork at 6:20 p.m. on Friday. Arbor View is on the road again on Friday and play against Lone Peak at 4:40 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully Lone Peak focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
