Emery is 8-2 against North Sanpete since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Emery Spartans will stay at home for another game and welcome the North Sanpete Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Emery knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully North Sanpete likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Emery strolled past Carbon with points to spare, taking the game 58-39.
Emery had a senior duo take command as Zack Tuttle scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds and Luke Justice scored 20 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Justice has scored at least a third of Emery's points. Another player making a difference was Wade Stilson, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, North Sanpete's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The game between North Sanpete and Manti wasn't particularly close, with North Sanpete falling 62-48. While losing is never fun, North Sanpete can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Manti is ranked 30th).
Despite their loss, North Sanpete saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. McKay Schlappi, who scored seven points along with five steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Cook, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Emery's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for North Sanpete, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Emery beat North Sanpete 72-59 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Does Emery have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Sanpete turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
