Waggener is on a four-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Valley is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Wildcats will welcome the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Monday, Waggener made easy work of Western and carried off a 28-14 victory.
Mackenzie Sweasy made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sweasy was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Waggener got a big performance out of Cassandra Stum, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Keilyn Taylor was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Waggener always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .892. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .526 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Valley made easy work of Seneca on Monday and carried off an 18-9 win.
The team relied heavily on Natalie Saint Louis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Johanna Eason, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Waggener's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Valley, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Waggener has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .645. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .643. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Waggener's way against Valley when the teams last played back in March, as Waggener made off with a 31-24 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
