Bell Gardens extended the longest winning streak in Almont this week by beating San Gabriel, 26-19. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Schurr took down Keppel 55-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Matadors' dynamic duo of Marqus Valenzuela and Gabriel Larios proved tough for Bell Gardens to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Valenzuela threw for 456 yards and one touchdown and Larios had 115 yards receiving. Rigoberto Sanchez helped San Gabriel's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 104 yards.
Ezra Broadus was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 184 yards on 34 carries as Alhambra fell to Dave Ramos' team. Jeremy Maresca also contributed to the rushing game with 15 yards on the ground.
Jude Oliva's team's Valenzuela and Joseph Mayorga have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Valenzuela has thrown for 2866 yards this season, while Mayorga has 34 catches for 766 yards. The Moors' Broadus leads the league in rushing yards with 874.
Montebello's Matthew Saenz is within 56 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Spartans. Accruing a total of 13 touchdowns this year, Saenz has thrown for 1944 yards with 12 interceptions.
Two of the top units in Almont will face off this week when the Matadors take on Alhambra. San Gabriel's offense has racked up 278 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Jerry De Santis' team has allowed only 139 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Schurr takes on the Oilers. At the moment, the Spartans are in fourth, while Montebello is in second.
The Matadors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,450 from 10,661. The improvement was the result of 26-19 victory over San Gabriel last week.
