Softball Recap: Gloucester City Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Gloucester City had won five straight on the road, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 12-5 to make it six. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cherokee Chiefs 5-3. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly two runs.

As for Cherokee, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 29, 2024.

For Cherokee's part, Cali Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. Taylor has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kasey McNee was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Coming up, Gloucester City will take on Kingsway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their 18th straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cherokee, they will head out on the road to square off against Rancocas Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
