The Holly Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 45-29 to Las Animas. While losing is never fun, Holly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while Las Animas is ranked 107th).
Holly lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Josie Kissell, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Anayi Cerros, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Las Animas found their leader in underclassman Jadann Eck, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Ava LaBarge was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Holly's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Las Animas, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Holly will head out on the road to face off against Primero at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Las Animas, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Calhan at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Calhan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Saturday.
