Woodland is 0-10 against Dixon since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wolves will square off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Woodland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Natomas 17-1 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Taylin Gill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Loesch, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Sofia Sanchez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Dixon made easy work of Rio Linda on Thursday and carried off a 9-1 win. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Like Woodland, Dixon also got a great game from a two-way player: Dakota Gaball. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Gaball has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Olivia Gomez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Emily Morris was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Dixon's record now sits at 6-3. As for Woodland, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-11.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Woodland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Dixon struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woodland might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Dixon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
