The Rowe Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Los Fresnos Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Rowe is leaving town to face Los Fresnos after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Rowe fell just short of Harlingen South by a score of 16-14 on Thursday.
Despite their loss, Rowe saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Draven Niaves, who picked up 91 receiving yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Niaves got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of64 yards. Rowe also got a significant boost from Samuel Liguez, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.
Rowe wouldn't let Harlingen South keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Rowe can thank Dante Rodriguez and Nomar Aguire for forcing both of them. Aguire's also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing a fumble and making ten total tackles. John Salazar was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Los Fresnos had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past McAllen 43-10 on the road on Friday. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Falcons had established a 30 point advantage.
Robert Pineda and Diego Torres were among the main playmakers for Los Fresnos as the former rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries and the latter gained 113 total yards and two touchdowns.
