Basketball Recap: Williston Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Williston Red Devils had to suffer through a 95-66 loss at the hands of The Rock National Lions. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Lions are ranked ninth).

De'Andre Harvey and Xavier Kirkpatrick certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Harvey dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten boards, while Kirkpatrick went 7 of 15 on his way to 22 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The matchup was Harvey's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Henderson, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Williston and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for The Rock National, they moved to 15-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Williston will be playing in front of their home fans against Chiefland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Williston knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Chiefland likes a good challenge. As for The Rock National, they will venture away from home to square off against Southeastern Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
