The Thunder moved up to 117 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sierra Foothill. A 35-9 win over the Miners helped Rocklin improve its standing.
ZACH LABAR and MARK LEVERON gave Del Oro a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. LABAR threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns, while LEVERON ran for 107 yards. Teammate DYLAN KAINRATH added to the ground attack by rushing for 56 yards.
Stephen Nogosek provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Woodcreek lost to the Golden Eagles. He completed 14 passes for 138 yards and also ran for 54 yards. Nogosek's favorite target this week was Blake Robinson, who caught five passes for 71 yards.
KAINRATH made the biggest impact on defense this week as Del Oro beat the Timberwolves. The 5-foot-11 junior pulled down one interception.
Ian Davis was the best wideout in the league this week as Nevada Union fell to Greg Benzel's team. Davis tallied six receptions for 105 yards. Jake Berger helped Nevada Union's passing attack out by catching two balls for 25 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Nogosek and Mitchell Layton Woodcreek has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Nogosek leads the league in passing with 1380 yards, while Layton has rushed for 686 yards this season. Dave Humphers' team's Davis leads the league in receiving yards with 647 on 39 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Thunder take on Granite Bay. Rocklin is currently in first, while the Grizzlies are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Miners and John Hildebrand's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Nevada Union comes in having scored 158 this season, while the Timberwolves have scored 186. The Miners scored 9 points last week as they lost to the Thunder.
