4A Region I District 5 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Rider extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region I District 5 this week by beating Brewer, 44-17. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Raiders.
Byron Nelson moved up to 147 from 190 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bobcat were able to make the jump by beating Lake Dallas 28-21.
Azle's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corbyn Koiner threw for 66 yards and Tyler Albers had 28 yards receiving. On the ground Hunter McDonald chipped in 169 yards. Richie Fabela helped Azle's passing attack out by catching two balls for 19 yards.
Denton's Cy Ward and Ke' von Buris have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Ward has thrown for 952 yards this season, while Buris has 16 catches for 301 yards. Rider's J.T. Barrett leads the league in rushing yards with 569.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 5 this week will be when the Bears take on the Hornets. Brewer is in first place, while Azle is in fourth place.
Guyer took down the Broncos 62-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
