Akron has won five straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Medina has won five straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Tigers will host the Mustangs at 4:45 p.m. Akron will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Akron is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over East Aurora on Wednesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by seven runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Collin Miller, who went 3-for-6 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Anthony Consiglio was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Akron kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Medina ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Maryvale 3-2.
Medina also got a great performance from Lucas Grimes as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Carter Woodworth was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Akron now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Medina, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Akron has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Medina struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
