Atchison is a perfect 10-0 against Washington since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Phoenix will face off against the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Atchison will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Tuesday, Atchison got the win against Wyandotte by a conclusive 14-1. The Phoenix might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Brody Barnes was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Barnes was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, Yogi Purdy was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Leighton Boldridge was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Atchison hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyandotte struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Washington, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They blew past Wyandotte 17-7 on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Leland Estes was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Washington's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Angel Garcia-Romero also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Atchison pushed their record up to 7-0-2 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Washington, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-9 record this season.
Everything went Atchison's way against Washington in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Atchison made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
