Bellville is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Sealy Tigers will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m.
Bellville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Columbus just ended the team's three-game winning streak last Friday. They took a 20-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The game marked the Brahmas' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Meanwhile, Sealy strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Needville 42-21. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Bluejays are ranked 260th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sealy's win came from a few key players Bellville will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Romeo Castillo, who picked up 33 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 53 yards. AJ Cepon was in the mix too, providing Sealy with two touchdowns.
Sealy didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Needville to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Brady Cranfill for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sealy hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.54 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Sealy's defense didn't let Cameron Hall, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Isaiah Dukes-Self was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Dukes-Self is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least seven every time he's taken the field this season. Jadon Hernandez was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 19 total tackles.
Bellville's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Sealy, their record now sits at 5-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Bellville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 173.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sealy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 254.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Bellville was able to grind out a solid win over Sealy in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 35-28. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Tigers' Kane Killough, who threw for 280 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 88 yards on only 12 carries. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Brahmas still be able to contain Killough? There's only one way to find out.
