Big Island I recap Sept. 26, 2012
Kealakehe extended the longest winning streak in Big Island I this week by beating Kea'au, 34-22. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Waveriders.
Hilo made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,896 from 8,689. The advance stemmed from a 21-14 victory over Waiakea last week.
The Vikings' Drew Kell and Donovan Kelley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Kell has thrown for 407 yards this season, while Kelley, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has nine catches for 227 yards. Lennox Costales from Kealakehe leads the league in rushing with 299 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Sam Papali'i's team takes on the Warriors. As it stands, the Waveriders are in first, while Waiakea is in third.
Kealakehe led Big Island I in scoring this week after putting up 34 points on the Cougars.
