Bethune is 1-7 against Lone Star since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bethune Bobcats will challenge the Lone Star Longhorns at 11:00 a.m.
Bethune is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their tenth straight game on Wednesday. They lost 55-31 to Hi-Plains. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th in Colorado, while the Patriots are ranked 98th in Colorado).
Samantha Robinson put forth a good effort for the losing side as she posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Paulina Reyes, who had 13 points and seven boards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lone Star). They took their match on Monday with ease, bagging a 63-25 win over Peetz. The Longhorns have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 23 points or more this season.
Lone Star's win came from a few key players Bethune will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jade Kuntz, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine assists. Peytyn Kuntz was another key player, going 6-for-14 en route to 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Lone Star was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peetz only seven assists.
The victory snapped Lone Star's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-10 record. As for Bethune, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Bethune has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Lone Star struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Bethune ended up a good deal behind Lone Star in their previous meeting on February 8th, losing 50-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kuntz, who went 8-for-18 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight assists and three steals. Now that Bethune knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
