Two dominant in Hunter Bauserman and Kaiden Smit are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Swink Lions will be playing at home against the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Swink is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
Last Tuesday, Swink came up short against Swallows Charter Academy and fell 60-50.
Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Sangre de Cristo ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged Del Norte out 37-35. The victory was just what Sangre de Cristo needed coming off of a 51-26 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sangre de Cristo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Smit, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Smit hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolby Shellabarger, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Swink has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Sangre de Cristo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Everything went Swink's way against Sangre de Cristo in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as Swink made off with a 54-33 victory. Will Swink repeat their success, or does Sangre de Cristo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
