The Etowah Eagles struggled with assists on Tuesday (the River Ridge Knights had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Etowah took a serious blow against the Knights, falling 70-35. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Etowah in their matchups with the Knights: they've now lost six in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Etowah lost, one person who can't be blamed is Megan Reed. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Stacie Angelakos, who scored 11 points.
River Ridge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Allie Sweet out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Sweet is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 14 games she's played. Sophia Pearl was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Etowah has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-10 record this season. As for River Ridge, their win was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-4.
Etowah will square off against the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sequoyah's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for River Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Woodstock focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Tuesday.
