II Section I recap September 17, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to La Joya Community, who took down 133rd ranked La Joya Community, 36-14. Daniel Chavarin threw for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 32 yards in the win.
Fairfax was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from fifth to third in II Section I. The Stampede beat Carl Hayden Community 75-6 earlier in the week.
St. Mary's's dynamic duo of Gabe Losada and Tino Vidales proved to be unstoppable against Tolleson, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Losada threw for 421 yards and 4 touchdowns and Vidales had 192 yards receiving. John Moser helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching 9 balls for 145 yards.
The Knights' dynamic duo of Losada and Vidales proved tough for the Wolverines to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
He went 29-50 with 1 interceptions.
Losada put up the best numbers through the air as St. Mary's lost to Tolleson.
Javian Roebuck was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 186 yards on 24 carries as the Fighting Lobos lost to Jason Wilke's team. Jesse Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 15 yards on the ground.
Vidales was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights lost to the Wolverines.
St. Mary's' Losada and Moser have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section I in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Losada has thrown for 956 yards this season, while Moser has 19 catches for 316 yards. Tim Fryson from Sunnyslope leads the league in rushing with 515 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Tolleson takes on second place Sunnyslope. Tolleson defeated the Knights last week, while the Vikings bested Copper Canyon.
There should be lots of points scored when Sunnyslope and the Wolverines face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Damon Pieri's team comes in having scored 138 this season, while Tolleson has scored 106. The Vikings scored 45 points last week as they beat the Aztecs.
Browne scaled the state rankings by moving to 129 from 161 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Bruins climbed the ranks as a result of besting La Joya Community 36-14.
