The Davie County War Eagles will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Alexander Central Cougars at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
Davie County managed to slip by West Rowan the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The War Eagles lost 77-53 to the Falcons on Wednesday. The game was a close 36-35 at the break, but unfortunately for the War Eagles it sure didn't stay that way.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Draeton Nance, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 21 points. Ethan Driver was another key player, shooting 60% from the field en route to 20 points and six boards.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Alexander Central on Tuesday. They put the hurt on East Burke with a sharp 77-53 win. The Cougars pushed the score to 61-41 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cavaliers had little chance of recovering from.
Davie County better keep an eye on Noah VanBeurden. He was instrumental in Alexander Central's win, putting up 30 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kade Flowers, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.
Alexander Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They racked up nine more assists than East Burke's also-impressive total of 13.
Alexander Central has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 82.5 points this season. As for Davie County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Everything came up roses for Davie County against Alexander Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 70-37 win. In that contest, the War Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 44-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
