Softball Recap: Buckeye Makes It Nine in a Row at Home

It's playoff time, and Buckeye had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Brookside Cardinals on Tuesday as they made off with a 23-2 win. Considering the Bucks have won 18 matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lilly Young looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Casandra Minarchick was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Michaels, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Buckeye always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .744. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Buckeye pushed their record up to 20-5-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.6 runs over those games. As for Brookside, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-16.

As of now, neither Buckeye nor the Cardinals have any future games scheduled.
