The Santana Sultans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 63-41 defeat at the hands of Mount Miguel. While losing is never fun, Santana can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 989th, while Mount Miguel is ranked 446th).
When it comes to explaining why Santana lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jakob Kielinen. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dain Diaz, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Mount Miguel found their leader in underclassman Jasen Hughes, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hughes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Sydney, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Santana has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Mount Miguel, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7.
Santana will be playing in front of their home fans against El Cajon Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Cajon Valley is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Mount Miguel, they will head out on the road to take on El Capitan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. El Capitan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Mount Miguel likes a good challenge.
