The Margaretta Polar Bears will head out to square off against the Gibsonburg Golden Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Margaretta has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Margaretta fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Sandusky on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Streaks by a score of 19-18. Even though they lost, the Polar Bears' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.5 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Mattie Kovalaske stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 4-for-6 with five runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Ellaynah Schaefer was another key player, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Gibsonburg unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of New Riegel by a score of 4-2. Golden Bears fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Blue Jackets since on Saturday.
Alivia Wauford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Cheyenne Reese was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Margaretta has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Gibsonburg, their loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Margaretta has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gibsonburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Margaretta took their win against Gibsonburg in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Will the Polar Bears repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
