Even though the Heritage Christian Defenders have not done well against the Calumet Christian Patriots recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Heritage Christian managed a 73-69 win over Calumet Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ryan Regnerus was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with nine steals. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Regnerus, who scored 16 points along with five assists.
Calumet Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaac Wahl, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Brad Nymeyer, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Heritage Christian's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Calumet Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-12.
Heritage Christian will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Clinton Christian at 12:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for Calumet Christian, they will be playing at home against Hammond Academy of Science & Tech at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hammond Academy of Science & Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday.
