The Clear Lake Cardinals will head out on the road to take on the Athenian Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Clear Lake lost to Kelseyville on the road by a decisive 69-50 margin. Clear Lake has struggled against Kelseyville recently, as their match on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Clear Lake's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jake Soderquist, who scored 17 points, and Cody Hayes who scored 14 points. Soderquist hasn't dropped below 16 points for four straight games.
Meanwhile, Athenian pushed their score all the way to 61 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of Head-Royce.
Despite the defeat, Athenian got a solid performance out of Surya Devasenapathy, who scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Devasenapathy has scored all season. Noah Olivier was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Clear Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Athenian, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Clear Lake hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.4 points per game. However, it's not like Athenian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Clear Lake might still be hurting after the 65-42 defeat they got from Athenian in their previous meeting back in February of 2022. Can Clear Lake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
