The Brookland-Cayce Bearcats will venture away from home to face off against the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brookland-Cayce has given up an average of 15.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Last Tuesday, Brookland-Cayce came up short against South Aiken and fell 12-7. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Thoroughbreds recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Alyssa Bullis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Caroline Hoffman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Gray Collegiate Academy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 9-4.
Peyton Hendrix was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matches.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aspen Boulware, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 14 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaley Anderson, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
Gray Collegiate Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Gray Collegiate Academy pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brookland-Cayce, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
