Jonathan Horstman was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. Weir is 2-1 when Horstman posts two or more runs, but 8-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Teddy Glyptis, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Clay-Battelle didn't have quite enough to beat Cameron last Tuesday and fell 7-6. The Cee-Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kooper Statler put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Ryan Parker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Trey Huggins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Weir's record now sits at 10-16. As for Clay-Battelle, their record is now 10-7.
Weir's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Red Riders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Clay-Battelle, though, as they've been averaging only 0.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Weir continue to outrun the ball?
Weir took their victory against Clay-Battelle in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 17-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Riders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
